The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that it will conduct virtual inspection (VIOS) of schools due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The board has made this decision because it was difficult to carry out the regular inspections amid the Covid-19 pandemic.  The inspections as per the CBSE will be completed within 10 days of the formation of the inspection committee for individual school. The inspection will allow the CBSE to decide whether the schools are equipped enough to be upgraded from middle to secondary level or from secondary to senior school.

A notice has been issued by the CBSE regarding the same, which states that virtual inspection will be done for up-gradation of affiliation of schools till the 2021-22 session. The decision was announced by the Union education minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, on his official Twitter account in which he stated that this step will provide major relief to schools during COVID-19.

Shri Nishank also stated that virtual inspection will prove to ensure a quick and smooth process of school affiliation and will also be in the educational interest of children as it would save their time.

  • Virtual Inspection of Schools (VIOS)

VIOS will save the time and cost involved in the physical affiliation of schools and will allow upgraded affiliation status to schools in the aforementioned categories. The decision by the CBSE will most importantly reduce some burden on schools, which are already facing many challenges due to the lockdown caused by covid-19 crisis.

  • Problem with Conducting Physical Inspection of Schools

Owing to the covid-19 pandemic, the schools all over the county had been shut down for an indefinite period; this has made conducting physical inspection difficult thus virtual inspection is a better alternative for schools.

  • Conditions that Schools Need to Follow for Virtual Inspection

Under the Standard Operating Procedure for virtual inspection, there will be need for a smart phone or a tab on the part of the school and Inspection committee members for inspection. In addition they would require high speed Wi-Fi internet connectivity.

The virtual inspection will allow the committee to inspect the all round infrastructure of the school including classrooms, laboratories and number of teachers for the classes.
