UP Board Announces Reduction in the Syllabus
The coronavirus epidemic has certainly affected education in India. There has been cancellation of class 10th and 12th board exams across the nation due to the lockdown, which has led to delay in the start of the academic session by schools. The CBSE and ICSE boards have decided to reduce the syllabus for the academic session 2020-21 so that schools can make up for the lost time and cover the syllabus in the limited time. After the CBSE, the UP Board has also decided to reduce the syllabus for its students so that students do not feel the extra burden after the opening of schools.
The session will start late due to Covid-19 pandemic and so the students and the teachers may find it difficult to cope with the syllabus so this announcement by the UP board comes as a major relief for them.
The board has announced to reduce 30% of the syllabus for classes 9-12. As per the announcement the remaining syllabus will be covered in three parts.
The Secretary of the UP Board, Divyakant Shukla released the new 131-page subject-wise UP Board syllabus on the official website. There will be no questions from the deleted syllabus in the UP 10th and UP 12th state board exams. The same goes for the class 9 and class 11 exams.
Topics and Chapters Removed from the Class 12 Syllabus
1.The condemnation of satirist Harishankar Parsai is no more there in Hindi syllabus of class 12.
2.In English the chapter “Merchant of Venice” has been removed.
3. In Sociology, public relations media and communication subjects have been eliminated from ‘dimension of globalization’.
4. The history syllabus excludes Partition: History and Nationality, Sectarianism and Division of 1940 in ‘Division Based on Physical Sources’
Topics and Chapters Removed from the Class 10Syllabus
1. Topics including democracy, caste, religion and sexual issues from the class 10 civics syllabus.
2. Class 10 Social Science subject no more includes information on major national parties and regional parties of India.
3. The lessons including “The Nation Builders,” “Torch Bearers,” “Our Indian Music,” and “My Greatest Olympic Prize” are not there in Class 10 English syllabus.
4. In Mathematics chapters like circle, probability, some trigonometry applications, parallel series and polynomial have been eleminated.
5. The Science syllabus excludes topics like properties of metals and non-metals, electromagnetic effects, electrical effects, early attempts to classify elements into the periodic table, natural resources and our environment.
6. Poems including Varsha Sundari of Mahadevi Varma, the Chandralok of Sumitranandan Pant, the youth of Makhanlal Chaturvedi, and portions of Samas and Bahubrihi are no more there in class 10 Hindi syllabus.
